Hu Tao Explained: Story, Powers and the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor

A complete introduction to Hu Tao's role as the 77th Director of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, her view of death, Pyro imagery, ghost companion and unmistakable visual design.

01

Who is Hu Tao?

Hu Tao is the 77th Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor in Liyue. She is also a Pyro Vision holder, a poet and a relentless promoter whose playful behavior often leaves other characters unsure whether she is joking.

The funeral parlor is not a gothic novelty shop. It manages rites that preserve the boundary between life and death and treats the deceased with dignity. Hu Tao's unusual humor exists beside serious professional responsibility.

This contrast is the foundation of her appeal: she can be mischievous without being careless about death, and solemn without losing curiosity or warmth.

Hu Tao's hat, long coat, red-tipped hair and flower-shaped pupils remain recognizable across many art styles.
02

The 77th Director and her family legacy

Hu Tao inherited the directorship at a young age after growing up around Wangsheng's work. Her grandfather's death becomes a formative event, not because she refuses to accept it, but because she travels toward the boundary in hope of seeing him once more.

She learns that people who lived without regret do not necessarily linger. The experience supports her belief that death should be understood as part of the natural order rather than treated only as horror.

Her title therefore represents training and obligation. Marketing stunts are memorable, but they do not erase the competence required to lead one of Liyue's oldest institutions.

03

Hu Tao's philosophy of life and death

Hu Tao protects the boundary between the living and the dead. She opposes attempts to unnaturally disturb that balance, yet she is not emotionally cold toward grief.

Her jokes reduce fear and expose social stiffness, while proper rites give mourning a structure. Those two behaviors can look contradictory only if seriousness must always appear solemn.

This perspective also explains her friction with Qiqi. Hu Tao initially sees a zombie as a violation of the natural order, then gradually recognizes Qiqi's determination to continue living and adjusts her behavior.

04

Pyro abilities and the spirit companion

Hu Tao fights with a polearm and uses Pyro through the Paramita Papilio state. Her combat design trades part of her health for stronger fire-infused attacks, connecting risk, vitality and the threshold imagery central to her character.

Her burst summons or directs a smiling spirit that strikes nearby enemies and restores health. The ghost is a signature visual companion, but it should not automatically be identified as a named deceased character.

Butterflies, red blossoms, fire and drifting spirits form the most common symbolic cluster in Hu Tao wallpapers.

05

Recognizing Hu Tao's design

The dark ceremonial hat with a plum blossom is her strongest silhouette cue. Long brown hair fading to red, red eyes with flower-shaped pupils, a dark coat, white socks and red-black accents complete the canonical design.

Alternate outfits remain recognizable when the hat, pupils, hair gradient or ghost motif survives. A generic young woman in red-black streetwear should not be labeled Hu Tao from color alone.

Her imagery often mixes cute facial expressions with cemeteries, butterflies or paper talismans. The balance should feel playful and liminal rather than purely frightening.

06

Hu Tao's important relationships

Zhongli works as a consultant for Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and possesses knowledge far beyond what his modest job title suggests. Hu Tao respects his expertise while finding his spending habits and old-fashioned manner difficult to understand.

Her relationship with Qiqi begins from a serious misunderstanding of what respecting the natural order should require. Learning that Qiqi fiercely wants to live forces Hu Tao to account for the will of the individual rather than applying one principle mechanically.

Xingqiu shares her love of wordplay and poetry, while Xiangling and other Liyue acquaintances place her inside an active young social circle. These connections prevent the funeral director from becoming isolated gothic imagery.

07

Common misunderstandings about Hu Tao

Hu Tao does not wander Liyue hoping that more people will die. Her aggressive promotions are a comic flaw, while her professional duty is to handle inevitable death properly and prevent disturbances between realms.

Her low-health gameplay also should not be turned into a literal claim that she seeks injury. Combat mechanics translate the threshold between vitality and danger into risk-reward design.

Finally, the small ghost accompanying her is a motif and ability effect, not automatically her grandfather. The emotional story of her grandfather is important precisely because she accepts that he did not remain waiting at the boundary.

08

Why Hu Tao remains globally popular

Hu Tao offers several entry points at once: a memorable voice and personality, a distinctive combat rhythm, strong visual symbols and a philosophy that becomes richer when readers move beyond memes.

Her searches reflect that range, from wallpaper and fan art to build questions, poems, Qiqi, Zhongli and Wangsheng lore. An encyclopedia should connect those interests instead of reducing her to one combat statistic.
